HPI and KPMG: Global Manufacturing Benchmark Survey

The challenge
HPI were approached by KPMG as a potential partner to conduct quantitative research for inclusion in KPMG’s Industrial and Automotive Products (IAP) group annual report. The report addresses key issues facing international businesses operating in specific manufacturing segments. The research program needed to deliver strategic insight at a senior level (C-suite and directors) within manufacturing companies across all continents, and successfully position KPMG as a thought leader in this area.

Our approach
RSM partnered with HPI to jointly present a proposal for a global CATI study exploring the views of C-suite and director-level decision makers in both automotive and non-automotive manufacturing companies across the globe. Over 250 interviews were completed across the UK, USA, France, Germany, Belgium, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Mexico, Brazil, Malaysia, Austria, Canada, China, Ireland and Taiwan. Respondents received an individually customised report benchmarking their responses versus their peers.

Real results
The study not only succeeded in providing KPMG with valuable insight into manufacturing sector trends for use in thought leadership pieces, but also acted as a business development tool – RSM interviewers set up 30 face-to-face meetings (entirely within MRS Guidelines) between respondents and KPMG consultants.
